Estou agora testando o produto
SQLRDD com a versão Borland e me
parece ser um grande produto.
Parabéns! |

Aproveitei o final de semana para
fazer alguns testes com mais calma e
tempo, no SQLRDD... confeço que
fiquei impressionado pela excelente
performance e pela versatilidade que
detectei!
Fiz um teste em um banco de dados
com mais de 700.000 registros,
fazendo uma pesquisa o máximo
eficiente possível: o resultado foi
muito rápido, e portanto eficiente.

Estou muito feliz de ver que a
condição SET FILTER TO está agora
traduzida como parte da cláusula
WHERE nas frases SQL. Isso deve
incrementar a performance
sensivelmente das nossas aplicações.
Obrigado Marcelo, por um grande e
melhorado SQLRDD! |

I already love this
thing. I wished I knew
about it 4 years ago. I
would have switched
another major app (also
15 years old) using
xHarbour. I already
recompiled the app here
and am running
pre-production tests
with the demo version. I
am waiting for one of
the owners to return to
get authorization to buy
the Enterprise edition.
You have no idea how
excited I am to find
xHarbour. I have been
test-driving and testing
platforms ranging from
.Net/C# to LAMP Stack to
you-name-it-I-tried-it.
With xHarbour, I am just
at home with my 20 years
of xBase experience and
I still get the benefits
of event-driven, SQL, OO
programming and I can
even convert the systems
to Linux.
Believe it or not, my
challenge now is to
cross-engineer an
xBase++ app to xHarbour.
Luckily, half the code
is the GUI, which is a
snap in Visual xHarbour
and looks 100 years
better! |

xHarbour Builder has
been good news for me &
I have moved half of my
installed apps over to
it. Customers report an
improvement in speed & I
get less support calls.
It has allowed me to add
exporting to excel
spreadsheet direct,
instead of to .csv. It
has also allowed me to
add pdf output as well,
via PageScript.
Most importantly we do
not need the Novell
client on all PC's as we
can now use ADS under
TCP/IP ... big
improvement.

I have over 225,000
lines of former Clipper
5.2e converted using
xHarbour. It is a
console app and the
screen updates are
remarkably faster. My
app uses as many as 70
tables and maybe 150
indexes at the same
time. EVERYTHING is
faster on my XP box than
the Clipper compiled
app. I have a few brave
customers field testing
and they are very happy
about the speed --
especially on XP.

... I today got
xbuildw playing on the
office machine and made
a minor test. I have a
membership file
(eligmbrs.dbf) which is
about 700 MB large with
about 1.4 million rows.
As a performance test I
would index this file on
a particular field,
family_id, which is a
six-character not in
natural order in the
file.
On my setup at work,
VisualFoxPro 6.0 reports
105 seconds. Clipper
5.3b reports 52 seconds.
xHarbour reports 20
seconds.
Now I'm going to do a
lot more testing. If I
can prove to myself that
xHarbour does .dbf stuff
five times faster that
VFP does in general, I
will become VERY
involved in this great
product.

plenty of room for
improvement, of curse,
but things get better

We use xHarbour + FWH

total users with about
40 of those on Citrix.
Citrix uses terminal
services but adds
features like a server
farm and load balancing.
The remote machines can
be just about any kind
of device, even pda.

About SQLRDD: BTW I
like your product. The
more I am working with
the RDD, the better I
like how you handle the
conversion of Clipper
code. In particular, I
like the way you work
around 2 problems: lack
of a record number and
lack of a sort order.
Your solution is both
clever and is fast.
Another excellent part
is the ability to
connect to all
databases.

Have watched 1st
movie. My problem has
been trying to use this
after studies of Visual
Basic, Access VBA, etc.
xHarbour is so much
easier and straight
forward that I will have
to unlearn things. I can
now see that this is
made for me!

So far as what
Clipper does: I don't
know any more, I stopped
using Clipper shortly
after I finished porting
all my old code to use
xHarbour and that was a
while ago ;-)
Seriously, I don't even
have Clipper installed
anywhere any longer so I
can't even test it.

xHarbour has given
new life to the core

company I work for. The
reindexing speed under
xHarbour's DBFCDX was a
very pleasant surprise,
amongst other noteworthy
improvements xHarbour
have implemented for the
Clipper language.

IMHO I want to go on
record stating that
(x)Harbour is the best
Clipper migration
tool/Development Product
I have found. I had real
concerns with the
impending Clipper brick
wall. I tried Alaska's
xBase++, but technical
support from their
compensated staff was
not nearly as good as
the free support
available from xHarbour.

One big advantage of
xHarbour is that you can
get a native SQLRDD
driver. It takes almost
all the pain out of the
conversion process.
Right now I'm looking at
a conversion process to
go from VFP tables to a
MySQL back end. It will
be a lot of work in VFP.
With the SQLRDD driver,
I got the project done
in a couple days.
